Michelin Guides and Stars

Even though cooking seems very ordinary to us in daily life, this activity is an art for some. Restaurants that bring unique flavors from Turkish and world cuisine to their customers are the most important carriers of this art. Restaurants that prepare and present special tastes like a painter are evaluated and classified according to various criteria. The most well-known and prestigious in this classification is the Michelin Guide. Being included in this guide is very important for a restaurant not only to be known worldwide but also to have a reputation. Let’s take a closer look at what the Michelin Guide is and what Michelin Star winners are.

What is Michelin Guide?

The history of the Michelin Guide dates back to 1889. Brothers Edouard and Andre Michelin founded the tire company Michelin at a time when there were very few cars in France. Wanting to increase car and indirectly tire sales, the brothers created a functional guide for travelers. This guide included information such as how to refuel, how to change a tire, as well as a list of restaurants where you can have dinner and a map.

This guide, which was initially distributed free of charge, was edited, and began selling in 1920. The guide now included hotels in Paris and restaurants listed according to certain criteria. As the restaurant section of the guide became increasingly popular, the Michelin brothers appointed people we call restaurant inspectors today and asked them to visit and observe the restaurants.

For restaurants that were previously rated with one star, after five years a hierarchy system the zero, one, two and three stars was adopted. One Michelin star means that high standard and consistent meals are made with quality ingredients, two Michelin stars mean that the restaurant chef reflects their talents in their dishes, and it is worth changing your route and three Michelin stars means that the chef turns cooking into an art, and it is an extraordinary kitchen that should definitely be visited.

Michelin- Starred Restaurants in İstanbul

Restaurants in İstanbul that have a Michelin star bring different tastes such as modern cuisine and Asian and Mediterranean cuisine to their guests. These starred restaurants, in addition to hosting affluent menus, also gain admiration for their fascinating presentations.

Modern Cuisine

The modern cuisine, which appeals to the senses and is full of creativity, creates flavors that reflect the spirit of the time. Chefs see classic recipes, techniques, or traditions as a source of inspiration and they add creativity to the recipes that they prepare, completing them with extraordinary presentations. Modern cuisines that receive a Michelin Star are generally located on the European Side of İstanbul.

Asian Cuisine

Michelin- starred restaurants, which prepare Far Eastern flavors with utmost finesse, offer traditional Asian cuisine dishes such as sushi and ramen to their guests with spectacular presentations. In addition to those that prepare flavors specific to classical Asian cuisine, there are also restaurants that add contemporary Asian recipes to their menus. Some restaurants blend Asian traditions with European influences and there are no limits for creativity.

Mediterranean Cuisine

Michelin- starred restaurants that prepare the flavors of the countries around the Mediterranean frequently use olive oil, which is indispensable for Mediterranean cuisine. You can discover the flavors of Mediterranean cuisine at Michelin-starred restaurants located in different locations in İstanbul.
