Pera Palace Saturday Morning Concerts 2023-2024 Season Programme

Throughout its history spanning over 130 years, the Grand Pera Ballroom at the Pera Palace Hotel has been the venue for unforgettable balls and concerts. With its natural acoustics, it stands as one of Istanbul’s most special halls. In the seventh year of collaboration with IDEA Music, during the 2023-2024 concert season, it hosts a series of beautiful concerts and projects.

The concerts start at 11:00 in the morning, last approximately 1 hour without intermission.

“Viennese Inspirations”

Emilio Percan, a violinist with a career spanning different continents and over 20 CD recordings, including those with labels like Deutsche Grammophon, DECCA, and SONY, joins forces with the esteemed Turkish cello-piano duo, CelloPianoDuo. Together, they bring the Viennese Inspirations to the historical ballroom of Pera Palace, featuring works by J. Haydn and L. van Beethoven.

Four musicians from three cities come together on the stage of Pera Palace in the new year. Nilgün Yüksel, a member of the Istanbul State Symphony Orchestra, Yağmur Tekin and Onur Şenler, members of the Presidential Symphony Orchestra, and pianist Başar Can Kıvrak will take the audience on a romantic journey filled with memories in the historic atmosphere of Pera Palace, featuring the immortal piano quartets of W.A. Mozart and R. Schumann.

“First Rendezvous”

Çağ Erçağ, who has been a long-time member of Borusan Quartet, one of our country’s leading chamber music ensembles, and is currently the solo cellist of the Borusan Istanbul Philharmonic Orchestra, recognized as one of today’s most successful cellists; İris Şentürker, our accomplished pianist known for her academic career at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University Istanbul State Conservatory and her concerts both nationally and internationally with solo performances and collaborations with world-renowned musicians; Alican Süner, a violinist who continues his career in Switzerland and has gained international acclaim, come together with their newly formed piano trio in the magnificent atmosphere of Pera Palace. They will present a program featuring the beloved works of F. Schubert and F. Mendelssohn.

“A Romantic Journey with Women Composers”

Nilay Sancar, one of the leading violinists of our country, who has focused her career in the fields of education, orchestra musician and chamber music, and Beril Eren, one of the most sought-after pianists of the young generation with her flawless technique and unique musicality, will meet the audience at the Saturday Morning Concerts with a repertoire of rare works of French and German Romanticism. In this special concert for International Women’s Day, our two esteemed female artists will take the Pera Palace audience on a journey through the colours of the female composers of the Romantic period with Pauline Viardot, Cécile Chaminade, Louise Farrenc and Clara Schumann.

They will take the Saturday Morning Concerts audience on a magical journey.”

“Season Closing Concert”

Widely recognized as one of the most distinguished Turkish pianists in the world with an active career, Özgür Aydın, who also teaches piano at the Berlin University of the Arts (UDK), considered one of the best music schools in Europe; and the esteemed cellist Ümit İşgörür, whose career has continued in China after Turkey and the United States, where he teaches at Chenghu University, will meet the audience in the historical atmosphere of Pera Palace in the closing concert of the season.
